Turning Ex-Employees into Alumni
Developing an alumni culture as part of a multi-point branding-building strategy.
Developing an alumni culture as part of a multi-point branding-building strategy.
A few details
This tech company was about to embark on its next phase of rapid growth and wanted to tap into its alumni – a group that they had never focused on. Traditionally, former employees were ex-employees, never to be heard from again, but the in-coming CEO had a different view. The challenge to us: turn this group into an asset.
How we solved it
We started by initiating a dialog, reaching out to every employee who had ever left the company. More than 80% responded to our comprehensive Alumni Outreach Survey, providing us with great feedback on what led to their decision to leave, what they loved about the company and what frustrated them. Even better, more than 90% of the respondents said that, if asked, they would welcome the opportunity to come back to the company! This became a ready resource for that next phase of growth – former high-performing employees who knew the culture, knew the competition and were re-committed to the company’s mission.
As with all of our work, we subsequently turned that intervention into a turnover & employee attrition analysis program. Curating alumni with a multi-faceted strategy of events, updates, inquiries and opportunities. All of these initiatives engage alumni, invests them in the company’s continued success and builds an extended group of emissaries who speak proudly about their time at the company.
